Whois Privacy Protection, at times also called WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the authentic contact information of domain name registrants on WHOIS check sites. Without protection, the personal name, address and email of any domain owner will be openly available. Providing false information during the domain registration procedure or changing the real info afterwards will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing their ownership of the domain. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, require that the WHOIS information must be correct and accurate at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by domain registrars as an answer to the growing concerns for potential identity fraud. If the protection service is active, the registrar’s contact information will be shown instead of the registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domains support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that do not.

Whois Privacy Protection in Web Hosting

If you order a web hosting package from us, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names if their extensions support the service. You can register/transfer a domain and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the account activation procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The process is really easy – after you sign in, you will need to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll see a list of all the domains that you have registered through us. For each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, which will inform you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can disable the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can add our Whois Privacy Protection service without any difficulty. This requires only a few clicks of the mouse in the Hepsia hosting Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, through which you manage everything connected with your account. This is where you can see all your domains and for each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, using which you can enable, renew or remove the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-specific extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so you will not end up paying for a service that we can’t provide.
